This year is a really great year for sports fans, you’ve got the Football Women’s World Cup in France, the Cricket World Cup in England, the European Games in Belarus, the Rugby World Cup in Japan, and nothing less than the Summer Universiade in Naples.

2017 Taipei Summer Universiade

As we are a blog that talks about being a student, budgeting as a student, enjoy life abroad as a student, and pretty much anything that has to do with being a student abroad or a student in general, we couldn’t talk about this year’s major sport event when it comes to student life. Plus, we’re always talking about Italy, so the fact that this year it’s going to be held in Naples makes this even more up our alley.

You know how much I personally love Naples, If you’ve read some of our pages on the city you’ll feel the love, but apart from all the scenery, the food, and the people, this day we talk about Naples as a Sports Capital.

With its first event in 1959 in Turin, 60 years later the event comes back to Italy. If you don’t know anything about the Universiade, you must keep in mind that it is the Olympic Games for all the Universities around the world. When we look at sporting events and athletes that take part in these games, we have to notice that it’s the second largest event after the Olympics.

Starting on the 3rd of July and ending on the 14th, you’ll have the opportunity to see up to 170 countries competing against each other in 18 different sports, divided into 222 disciplines – yeah that’s a lot of sport in 11 days, and god we can’t wait to see who takes home the most gold.

So, good luck to all the countries and athletes that are taking part in the XXX Universiade, and at the end of the events why not enjoy the city a bit, it’s got a lot to offer.
