Biblioteca Ambrosiana

The Biblioteca Ambrosiana was opened in 1607 by archbishop Federico Borromei to bring knowledge to the general public. His idea to help the community brought about one of the most beautiful libraries in Milan. In here you’ll get a chance to see manuscripts by some of the most important minds of the past such as Machiavelli, Galileo, and the entire collection of Cesare Beccaria (the first theorist to speak out against the death penalty)

Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense

One of the 47 State libraries in Italy, the Biblioteca Braidense was originally owned by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and intended to her son Ferdinand, but rather decided to give it to the city of Milan. This was to have a second major library in the city offered by the, then, rulers of Milan.

In Milan’s fashion and design district, you’ll find one of the most beautiful buildings of the city, the Pinacoteca di Brera, home to the Accademia delle Belle Arti of Milan.
