JUNE 4TH-11TH

A BIG FASHION EVENT: InstallaTIONS, EXHIBITIONS, CONFERENCES AND FASHION SHOWS WILL LIGHT UP THE CITY OF FLORENCE

A new, great, fashion event, a network between Polimoda and the most prestigious boutiques, historical venues and exhibition spaces in Florence: this is the concept behind Polimoda Fashion Week, an event organized by the International Institute for Fashion Design & Marketing that will take place from June 4th to the 11th, filling the city of Florence with several appointments.

“It is indeed an original and innovative project explains Polimoda Dean Linda Loppa aimed at connecting the great names of the fashion system and young generations. Polimoda wants to promote a kind of event able to involve the city of Florence through installations, exhibitions, conferences and fashion shows, an event dedicated to young people and their city, encouraging it to reinvent itself through new ideas. For this first edition we are feeling very good vibrations around us, an enthusiasm that comes from store owners, museums and cultural centres.”

The fashion week opens up on June 4th in Palazzo Spini Feroni, with the conference “The XX Century’s Archives of Fashion”. On this occasion, Polimoda students will display at Ferragamo’s Creations their reinterpretations, through garments and accessories, of Ferragamo’s historical foulards.

Several events will light up the fashion week, such as the exhibition, in 20 renowned window displays, of Polimoda Fashion Design students’ creations, organized as a path to be followed across the city centre, from Via dei Tornabuoni to Piazza della Repubblica, from Via Por Santa Maria to Piazza Antinori, from Piazza del Duomo to Via Roma, and many more: a great collaboration with the most important brands, willing to recognize the quality of our students’ work. The trait d’union between all these events will be “A Fashion Show of Words”, a project curated by Polimoda Marketing Department.

The event Polimoda New Talent will take place on June 5th, 6th, 10th and 11th, from 3 to 7 pm, at the historical Giubbe Rose Café: young fashion designers, graphic designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, photographers and web designers will have the opportunity to present their personal, creative ideas to Linda Loppa, Dean of the Institute, and see them published on the new Polimoda website.

The exhibition “The Sculpture of Fashion” will take place at Marino Marini Museum: 19 students of the patternmaking course will interpret today’s fashion designers, in a dialogue bringing together art and the research of new volumes in sync with the human body. On June 10th Villa Bardini will host the conference “The Garden of Fashion”, while the magnificent spaces of the Florence National Library will be the ideal background for an exhibition of the fashion design students’ garments.

Thanks to the collaboration with the most exclusive Florentine night clubs, the evenings of June 4th and 8th will be animated by events and free-access parties called Polimoda Fashion Nights.

Finally, on June 8th, the Saschall Theatre will host the Fashion Show 2009, when 70 Polimoda Fashion Design & Fashion Design Advanced students will present their final works: a double appointment, at 4 and 9 pm, when creativity, research and talent of future designers will hit the runway.

“With Polimoda Fashion Week – concludes Linda Loppa – we wanted to create a project that is strictly bound to the Florentine area, although with an international feature, thanks to the collaboration with several renowned brands. In a time of crisis for all productive fields, Polimoda puts forward a low budget event based on creative ideas, involving both fashion design and marketing, counting on a great network of relationships and collaborations between different realities, all aiming at finding a new point of view.”
