The Festival of Creativity returns to the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from October 15-18, 2009 and dedicates its fourth edition to the city, where creativity becomes innovation, production and development.
After the increasing successes of the first three editions (with 400,000 visitors in 2008), the Festival—with the personal support of the President of the Republic Giorgio  Napolitano—is taking on an international profile as a premier event of the 2009 European Year of Creativity and Innovation. The 2009 programme offers four days of meetings, talkshows, workshops and live performances with artists, scholars and scientists from around the world—a rich schedule which allows each visitor to create their own ideal route through the event, whatever their age or interest.
The festival sees the return of dedicated childrens’ spaces, a pavillion for “pleasures of the table”, a “philosophers’ caffe”, and an area for live concerts. But it also offers a number of novelties: the cities and their metamorphoses are the focus point of the exhibits and conferences and there will be presentations from Medellin, Seoul, Shanghai, Dubai, Cairo, San Paolo and Tokyo. There will also be a focus on Futurism marking the 100th anniversary of the publication of the famous manifest by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti and a virtual partnership with Economia3, the economic festival in Prato dedicated to “Tuscany on the move” (La Toscana che va).
The spaces at Supernova, dedicated to innovation and technology in all its aspects, will host conversations on themes which are closely tied to the economy like mobility, infomobility, design and infrastructures. The organizers’ objective is to propose concrete contributions to the analysis of contemporary socio-economic processes which are currently undergoing a structural crisis. This aim drives the Festival’s cultural schedule with the Festival itself as the culminating event.
The Festival draws on the experience gathered over the last three years as a capital which it proposes as an example of a laboratory open 365 days a year, an open piazza for dialogue on creativity, a vector of new models for development. At the heart of the project is the opening of a laboratory for the future that poses the city as its most immediate locus for confontation and experimentation. Many scientists agree that by 2050 more than 80% of the world population will be living in “urban contexts”: polycentric cities or megalopolises. Human beings will inevitably be forced to measure their own growth and focus on creative solutions for sustainable development. The Festival of Creativity is possible through the support of the Fondazione Monte dei Paschi Siena
